  1. I have just read your article on Tongue Tie. I could scream! I am the mother of a a baby boy aged 15 weeks. We have spent this length of time in desperation watching our baby in agony with silent reflux. We have felt so helpless. At 3 weeks he was prescribed Zantac – only because i read up on silent reflux and persuaded two doctors that this is what he had and asked if they would they prescribe it. He was diagnosed with tongue tie two days ago by a lactation consultant. This is what has caused the reflux. A poor latch meant he was taking in too much air, causing all sorts of problems with his digestion. She told us that a quick laser procedure is the answer. We have spent days and nights in turmoil listening to our baby screaming. All of this could have been avoided with an earlier diagnoses by the hospital paediatrician. Again the HSE has a hell of a lot to answer for.

    1. Hi Bernadette, I’m so sorry to hear about all you went through these last few weeks. It’s so very tough when they ‘re so little and in so much pain. You’re right, it’s terrible that there’s no national policy to diagnose and treat tongue tie as soon as possible. I hope you get an appointment very soon and your little one is quickly on the road to recovery. Wishing you both the best of luck x

      1. I find this really fascinating, I heard a story recently about a friends baby who couldn’t breastfeed for the tongue tie reason and again, it went unchecked… it is on my list of things to ask now! I wish they would give you a heads up about this beforehand so women know to ask, and don’t have a poor breastfeeding experience.
