One thing that nearly all new breastfeeding mothers underestimate is how much time they actually spend sitting under their baby feeding, feeding, feeding in those first couple of months. Some days, particularly during a growth spurt, you could find yourself on the couch literally all day, with one feed rolling into another.

You’ll often read well-meaning advice that suggests perhaps you should avoid watching television altogether and instead use these opportunities to make consistent eye contact with your baby for bonding. So I don’t know what the weather is like in your part of the world today, but it’s sticky and overcast here. All the downsides of humidity with none of the sunny benefits! But it’ll probably lash soon, because this is Ireland. Which leads me nicely into the concept of the cartoon marathon – for those washed-out rainy days or sick days when the couch and some quality vegging is required.
